5 Tips For Healthier Gums

March 9, 2022

Your oral hygiene is very important and there are many ways to practice it. Having healthy gums is great when it comes to keeping your oral hygiene as good as it can be. Here are five tips to use for healthier gums.

Floss Daily

Flossing at least once a day is what dentists recommend. Flossing can get those hard-to-reach places in between your teeth that a toothbrush can't reach. Flossing will help remove plaque and food, reducing tartar from forming. Built-up tartar can lead to gum disease if not taken care of.

Brush Your Teeth Twice a Day

Another thing dentists always say is to brush your teeth twice a day. Brushing your teeth helps to remove plaque from your teeth. Brushing properly is a huge step in this. If you aren't brushing properly with a soft-bristled toothbrush and toothpaste with fluoride, and by using short back and forth strokes on all areas of your teeth, you're not fighting gum disease.

Use Mouthwash Daily

Mouthwash not only makes your breath smell minty, but it also benefits your oral hygiene. Anti-gingivitis mouthwash should be used daily to rinse out your mouth, killing plaque and tartar-causing bacteria. Mouthwash can be very beneficial to you by keeping your gums healthy.

Quit Smoking

Smoking can make you more susceptible to gum disease. Not only can smoking hinder your immune system, but it can also interfere with the normal functions of your gum tissue cells. Along with this, it may also impair blood flow to the gums. This can hurt your gums and can increase your risk for gum disease.

Visit the Dentist Regularly

Visiting your dentist twice a year is very important to your gum health and overall oral hygiene. Many general dentists' practices all over the country want to help you have healthy gums. With the professional cleaning dentists perform, they will be able to remove tartar from your teeth, which can help your gums stay healthy. Your dentist will also be able to see any gum problems early and treat them quickly and easily.

It's really important to trust your Medicare dentists with your oral health. According to the CDC, gum disease affects 40% of adults over the age of 30. If found early, you can get it treated easier and you can continue to have healthy gums.
